Volvo’s New S60 Concept Car

Well they’ve certainly come a long way from the ‘boxy’ shapes they were infamous for decades ago. Volvo has always been a well-respected luxury brand yet more for its safety rather than any form of “sexy” design appeal. Possibly it is the dawning of a new era as Volvo cars are increasingly much more ‘with’ the sexier times.
This S60 concept has been a collaboration with Swedish glassworks Orrefors, which features a floating centre stack of hand-made Orrefors crystal. The overall look is more sporty yet elegant. The interior has modern seating design, as well as a shifter which is horizontal when the car is in automatic mode, yet can be flipped for a better grip when the driver wants to change to manual.
The safety features are true to Volvo excellence, and in terms of powerful performances, it certainly isn’t lack either with a Gasoline Turbocharged Direct-Injection (GTDi) four-cylinder which generates up to 179 horsepower.
Production is not scheduled until 2010, however the concept model will be on show at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2009.
