Lush Venice
Venice is a very characteristic city in Italy because it really hasn’t changed for over six hundred years. Some people say it is a ‘sanctuary on a lagoon’ and is beautiful and interesting. Even though Venice is crumbling, it still gets hit hard with tourists and on any given day could be more vacationers in the city than actual residents. Most people come here to tour the city and take rides on the gondolas. Venice also has many museums that people can visit to view the city’s history and culture. There are two main museums: Correr Museum and Doge’s Palace. The Correr showcases globes that were created since the 1500’s, a library hall, and a picture gallery. There is a separate section for Roman antiques. End your visit here at the art café. Doge’s Palace is where administration for the city used to work and was Casanova’s jail. The roof is actually five hundred years old. This palace offers a guided tour that will show off these extra items that others cannot see. Most people tend to visit these two museums alone, but there are others as well that may be beneficial to visit. La Fenice Theater is a historic cinema that contains an audio guide. Granted, this is not the original as it had burnt in the 1990’s, but the rebuilt model is the exact replica of it. If you are into fashion, the Mocenigo Palace showcases all sorts of clothes that date back to the 1700’s. The Ca’Rezzonico also showcases the 18th century, but instead of clothing, it displays more of the ambiance of the Venetian nobilities. Whereas the Ca’ Pesaro and the Peggy Guggenheim Museum both show modern art. There are other museums and showpieces in Venice that many visitors like to tour. These can include a bell tower and clock tower or several other art museums spread across the city. It all depends on your likes and interests. For those that love walking around and taking in a piece of history, Venice museums are a good way to do this as there are many to see and you can learn a lot about the city through them. |
