Concept vehicles are seen regularly at motor and car shows. The newest vehicle – call it a car or call it a plane or then you can call it both, is a flying machine and a car rolled into one. Created by Terrafugia – The Transition seems to be a vehicle right out of a fantasy story book.

Aptly named ‘The Transition’, this car changes from being a simple car to transforming into a flying machine in a few moments. This car cum plane is a successful attempt to merge two different modes of traveling so that the owner can be driving one moment and then take to the air in the next.

The brainchild of enterprising Engineers from MIT, the Transition is a result of their innovative ideas and pooled resources. All it takes is to fold up the wings of the plane with a click of a few buttons, that can be done from the cockpit itself and you have a car ready to hit the road. The plane and car, a two-in-one vehicle is a compact vehicle that can seat two people comfortably with space for carry-on luggage and a golf set.

On land it is an easy to drive car with a rear wheel drive and other standard features. The car can be parked in the garage and does not need a hangar or any special parking area. The Light Sport Aircraft is fitted with a 100 hp Rotax 912S engine, latest crash safety elements, the newest glass avionics and a complete vehicle parachute device.

A Light Sport Aircraft pilot’s license with a minimum of 20 hours of flying is all it takes to get into the cockpit and for trained pilots a get acquainted course that comes with the vehicle-cum-plane is all that is needed to fly this compact beauty.
