
A 2006 auction for the Reach Out to Asia charity, a group that works to help support causes around the continent of Asia, was held to raise money for the charity. One of the most notable things that came out of the auction was a unique Fender Stratocaster guitar.
This Fender Stratocaster guitar was auctioned off in Doha, Qatar at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in the city. This guitar featured a variety of music legends who autographed the guitar that went for auction. The guitar was autographed by many people including the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards, Queen’s Brian May, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Paul McCartney.
Other people who signed it included Bryan Adams, Jeff Beck, Oasis’ Liam and Noel Gallagher, the Who’s Pete Townshend, the Kinks’ Ray Davies, Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, AC/DC’s Malcolm and Angus Young, Sting and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi. All of these rock legends came out in support of the charity to autograph this guitar.
This guitar is noted for featuring a strong white build on its main body. A series of silver accents can also be found around the neck and the top end of the guitar.
The guitar was auctioned off in order to raise money to help support relief efforts in Asia after the tsunami off of the Indian Ocean destroyed many homes in the continent and left tens of thousands of people dead.
The winner of the auction was Her Highness Sheihka Miyyassah Al Thani. This is the heir to the thrown of Qatar.
The guitar went for a grand total of $2.8 million in the auction. This beat out the original record holder by leaps and bounds. The original record was held by an Eric Clapton Stratocaster guitar that was auctioned off for a little under a million dollars in 2004.
This amazing guitar is one that features the names of some of rock music’s greatest legends and also features a beautiful design. The guitar is also one that is valuable and was able to help with raising a great deal of money for a very valuable and worthwhile cause of helping Asia to recover from the devastation of the tsunami.
