Dubai is a place where temperatures average around 40 and even up to 50 degrees Celcius. Naturally, the sand is hot to step on. So for designers and developers in the luxury hotel industry, the next train of thought was, just as naturally, Why not find a technology that cools the sand on the beach?

Palazzo Versace Dubai will be the very first luxury hotel in the world to have a full piping system that extracts the heat from the surface and… I’m not too sure what else happens to the heat after that. Plus the swimming is planned for full refrigeration as well. (And as they wrote in the Times, “The scheme is likely to infuriate environmentalists.”)

Sustainability is possible, however, argued by Soheil Abedian, founder and presdience of Palazzo Versace. No details provided on ‘how’.

The Palazzo Versace Dubai is expected to be opened by either late 2009 or early 2010. It will be a 10-storey hotel accommodating up to 213 rooms and 169 apartments.
