This statue was made in 1897 by the renowned French artist Jean – Léon Gérôme. He was an enthusiast of the “chryselephantine” style of sculpting followed by Greek and Roman sculptors in which ormolu and ivory are used extensively and he has used this very same technique to create this unique sculpture.

This sculpture is 16 and a half inches in height and replicates the bronze statue, bought by the French to be displayed to the public, down to the tiniest detail. It is a characteristic example of the neo classical style of sculpting and art not to mention its significance relating to French history. The statue has inscribed the words Siot – Decauville Fondeur Paris and has been signed as J. L. Gérôme.
