LushTooshies: £4,000 ‘Andy Dandy’ Chairs by Jimmie Martin

Posted in Antiques & Collectibles on December 1, 2008

With only 5 editions available (one of each colour), it’s more like you would be buying an art installation rather than a set of furniture. Available in 5 striking colour combinations, the ‘Andy Dandy’ chairs by Jimmie Martin have prints of Christopher Makos’ ‘Altered Image’ portraits for Andy Warhol combined with Paul Solberg’s ‘Bloom’ project images of flowers.

The shape of the chair themselves reflect antique forms and thus the contrasting modern pop colours create an excellent piece of artistic statement.

Jimmie Martin is a design duo made up of Jimmie Karlsson and Martin Nihlmar. Photographers Christopher Makos and Paul Solberg are also often known as the ‘Hilton Brothers’.

As with all Jimmie Martin pieces, the designers have their signatures hand painted on. The photos were digitally printed and then upholstered.

Andy Warhol was always known for re-interpreting objects of the everyday, and this is exactly what this collaboration reflects. Taking an everyday object such as a chair and completely va-va-vamping it up, loudly and clearly, ‘This is an Andy Dandy chair!’
