For ‘only’ £20.4 million (or €26 million) you could be the owner of this 17-bedroom Château situated an hour’s drive from Limoges, France (and four hours from Paris). With lake views and a nearby chestnut forest, the Château has been told in legends as the burial place of Richard the Lionheart.

Past house guests have included Charles de Gaulle and Madame de Pompadour – Louis XV’s mistress.

Despite all its historic grandeur there are also modern amenities installed such as a cinema and concert hall.

For the history buffs of course there remains a Great Knight’s Hall and a dungeon. As part of the estate there are also cottages, stables, taverns and boutiques. There is an integrated computer network and satellite television.

“Perfect for those wanting total privacy with maximum comfort and luxury.”

Richard the Lionheart was the King of England from 1189 to 1199, and had died in battle during the Third Crusade.

The Château was built after the Crusades.
