LushBling: Kate Cusack Zipper Jewelry
Sometimes – and I’m talking, on the very odd occasion – Sartorialites do get a whiff of guilt for all their un-environmentally friendly forms of conspicuous consumption. Yet, still… doesn’t everyone deserve owning something gorgeous and wonderful if they can afford it?
Well, what if you could mix the two – something which reduces your carbon footprint and yet is still luxurious in the sense of unique design and artistic aesthetic?
Enter please, exhibit: Kate Cusack Zipper Jewelry.
With retail prices between $400 to $1000, this form of ‘recycled jewelry’ isn’t exactly the kind of ‘design student school project’ sold off at a ‘Trash or Treasure’ marketplace. Each necklace is uniquely handsewn and no two pieces are alike. Kate Cusak’s artistic eye is flawless and undeniably elegant.
Cusack’s zipper jewelry was first noticed in 2002 when she was a window dresser at the 5th Avenue Tiffany & Co. store. Having made a zipper pin to wear on her own outfit, her superiors noticed, and so began the work with zippers and luxury jewelry design.
