Saudi Arabia’s Hassan Mohammad Makhafa has stated that he is willing to pay $10 million for the shoes thrown at President George Bush during the now famous press conference in Iraq on Sunday, December 14th.
Makhafa wishes to place the shoes in a shrine and display them as a “medal of freedom.” He also explained that the $10 million is already more money than the combined values of all the estates he planned to give to his sons to inherit.
The shoes belong to Iraqi journalist Muntada Al Zaidi, who is now being heralded as a hero in many parts of the world. At 28 years of age, he was a correspondent for an independent Iraqi television station, Al Baghdadia. During a press conference with journalists from many other nations present, he stood up from about 12 feet away of President Bush and threw the shoe, simultaneously yelling in Arabic, “This is a gift from the Iraqis; this is the farewell kiss, you dog!”
