With only 5 editions available (one of each colour), it’s more like you would be buying an art installation rather than a set of furniture. Available in 5 striking colour combinations, the ‘Andy Dandy’ chairs by Jimmie Martin have prints of Christopher Makos’ ‘Altered Image’ portraits for Andy Warhol combined with Paul Solberg’s ‘Bloom’ project images of flowers.
The shape of the chair themselves reflect antique forms and thus the contrasting modern pop colours create an excellent piece of artistic statement.
Jimmie Martin is a design duo made up of Jimmie Karlsson and Martin Nihlmar. Photographers Christopher Makos and Paul Solberg are also often known as the ‘Hilton Brothers’.
As with all Jimmie Martin pieces, the designers have their signatures hand painted on. The photos were digitally printed and then upholstered.
Andy Warhol was always known for re-interpreting objects of the everyday, and this is exactly what this collaboration reflects. Taking an everyday object such as a chair and completely va-va-vamping it up, loudly and clearly, ‘This is an Andy Dandy chair!’
The design challenge winner at the 2008 LA Auto Show was none other than Mazda with their Kann design for a 2025 race car.
Competing the with likes of Honda, Toyota and Volkswagen, the Mazda design was selected for “how well it integrated a high level of innovation and technology into the design, as well as its truly unique styling.”
Mazda also has a patented electronic tire system which they have incorporated into the design for the vehicle to perform up to 250 mph without any harmful emissions.
The racing car will be competing in the 2025 E1 California races, where the roads have been planned to be completed resurfaced with a “sub-level electro-conductive polymer that powers the electric cars of the modern world.”
It really is almost hard to believe that they can fit so much power into so little space. The design aesthetic was inspired by electronic fields and organic textures found in nature.
It’s just as if it was made for a movie. About a gorgeous hieress to some… Internet search engine empire. And then she falls in love with her gardener. Or the son of the family of the competing Internet search engine. (Okay, fictional writing is not my forte.)
This 5 acre estate is the result of four years of planning and construction. Featuring 7 bedrooms, 9 baths, Victorian theater and 2-bedroom guest house. There’s also a lake, waterfalls, pool, tennis court and victory garden.
The home is brand new and an ultimate expression of prestige.
It’s so beautiful it’s almost surreal. I really can’t stop wondering if I have seen it before somewhere, like in a movie. Everything about the property is so prestine, each detail add towards the balance of comfort and exclusivity.
With the palm trees, roman columns, and hand-painted Venetian plaster walls – it’s practically a dream house in the game The Sims.
Soothing, neutral and lighter colors have been the reported trend in demands of Stone Mart’s luxury clientele. “In today’s turbulent economic times, this flashback to the 50s is leading one of the top trends in design for 2009.”
Gold will never be out of fashion, as Stone Mart explains that “Calacatta Gold is particularly reminiscent of the past and has remained consistently popular recently and will continue into 2009.”
The marble slabs with Calacatta Gold feature grey veining details and specks of gold. Imported direct from Stone Mart’s Italian partners, the quality is impeccable and luxurious.
“The stone experts at Stone Mart also suggest that fresh trends for 2009 will embrace the rebirth of retro design and style, and that we are ‘revisiting mid-century colors’ with an influx of color palettes that include more neutral, soothing and lighter colors than previous seasons.”
Stones, marble or granite provide an organic ambience to any interior.
It’s been the second year running now for Audi USA to win Automobile Magazine’s well-respected awards for car design. (Last year was the Audi R8 as Design of the Year and Car of the Year).
This year the editors from Automobile Magazine were practically smitten with the A5’s “perfect execution.”
“The A5’s elegance, stability, and sheer visual presence make it a clear winner,” said Robert Cumberford, Automobil Magazine’s Design Editor.
Management at the top of the Audi empire couldn’t have been more pleased with yet another award under their belt.
“The graceful, yet precisely drawn, lines of the A5 epitomize the way a progressive coupe should look,” said Audi Executive Vice-President Johan de Nysschen. “All of its elements – powerful surfaces, a front end that speaks to pure performance, lighting that blends style with function among many other features – unite Audi style and dynamic performance.”
The A5 comes with a 3.2 Liter FSI engine and reaches 60 mph in 6.1 seconds.
