From the recently-launched Miele Guide, which evaluates and celebrates Asia’s best restaurants, we feature the top three dining places in Hong Kong.
Caprice (shown above) is the Four Seasons Hotel’s French restaurant headed by chef de cuisine Vincent Thierry. The ambience is rather formal, the decor elaborate but still elegant. The food is contemporary French cuisine with appetizers like Scrambled Eggs with Fresh Sea Urchin. Caprice has a prix fixe tasting menu that costs HK$ 1,080 (approximately US$ 140) per person.
Hutong, at the 28th floor of One Peking in Tsim Sha Tsui, has the look, feel and sound of old-fashioned China with its intricately carved antique wooden screens and red lanterns. The impressive views of Hong Kong’s skyline reminds you, however, of the modern world outside. The food traces its roots from northern China while using new ingredients in recipes like Poached Frog Legs with Sponge Cucumbers in Spicy Chili Broth. A set lunch for two people will only cost you HK$ 238 (approximately US$ 31) per person, available only on weekdays. A minimum charge of HK$ 300 (approximately US$ 39) per person is applied during dinner.
The top restaurant in Hong Kong according to the Miele Guide is L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon at the Landmark in Central. L’Atelier’s main feature is its open kitchen surrounded by a circular bar with 36 seats, which allows diners to watch while their food is being prepared. While there are also tables and private rooms, the bar has, hands down, the best seats in the house. The ambience is casual and friendly; Robuchon’s version modern haute cuisine is impeccable. The set lunch at L’Atelier will cost you HK$ 390 (approximately US$ 50) while the tasting menu will set you back HK$ 1,450 (approximately US$ 187).
An exclusive range of 60th anniversary David Webb jewelry is only available at the designer’s Madison Avenue boutique in New York. Pieces feature colourful animal motif bangles and brooches such as the above rock crystal lion bangle. Other pieces which may be found have turtles, frogs and fish. The collection reflects Webb’s own past designs and fascinations with animal motifs, as well as his playfulness with color.
The modern twist, however, is primarily to do with the issue of wearability. Jewelry just isn’t worth having if it isn’t wearable, and the modern David Webb collections have been designed for the fun and practical consumer in mind. (Fun, practical and luxurious, of course.)
All the pieces are individually crafted at the New York workshop above the boutique. Other David Webb collections include a ‘For Him’ range and ‘Objects D’Art.’
The jewelry starts at $3,000 and go as high as $700,000.
(David Webb is probably one of the original jewelry designers to have ‘knock-off’ imitations created from its collections – a genuine form of flattery, one may choose to believe.)
Drooool, was my first reaction when I saw the stills of the Tiger Woods Dubai. For the LushTraveler who is a fan of golf, Dubai, luxury (and Tiger Woods!), the Tiger Woods Dubai community development is said to be well worth the wait of its current construction, which developers say is progressing as expected, and will be compelted by the end of 2009.
The entire development consists of a world-class 18-hole golf course, boutique hotel designed by Elie Saab, and luxury residential community. Better hurry – to all the real estate investors out there. “Our redefined sales policy of allowing resale of properties has significantly contributed to the marked increase in interest from regional and international investors,” said Abdulla Al Gurg, Project Director.
“The unprecedented response underlines the high degree of confidence among purchasers in The Tiger Woods Dubai and the continuing demand worldwide for luxury properties.”

There’s something so nostalgic about a friendly game of Backgammon. Said to be favourite pastime of Spiderman Tobey Maguire, the game of backgammon sure has had its appeals to people of all ages, throughout the ages. And part of the design of the game pieces and holding case in themselves can sometimes be called works of art or even works of heritage.
This exclusive 20 edition only Geoffrey Parker backgammon game set is made entirely of alligator and sterling silver. An engraving on the sterling silver disc above the hand-stitched carrying handle shows the limited edition number.
The set is currently sold exclusively on 20ltd and only 20 editions will ever be made. The cost is £9,000.
Creator Max Parker – son of Geoffrey Parker – personally dedicated this set to his father. The Geoffrey Parker brand of game sets are renowned for being the regular suppliers to the World Championships of Backgammon.
There are simply not enough four-decker maxi-yachts in this world to make all your friends green with envy. Thankfully that’s what makes it even more precious if you are able to get your hands on one of these.
CRN’s new 43-meter maxi-yacht, the Rubeccan, is sure to be a treasured gem of the seas. Orders have been in place for three of these so far, and recent wave exposure has proved that CRN are not about to close shop – unlike other shipyards.
“Despite the current international financial crisis, we can look to the future with untroubled confidence, thanks to the successful results of the recent past,” said CRN President Lamberto Tacoli.
People have complained that luxury yachts would be seeing a significant downpour of ‘doom and gloom’ – yet somehow, I think it probably helps to have a boat that features its own Technogym workout room, sauna in the lower deck and a stern hatch which transforms into a beach platform when perched over water.
