The name Champagne evokes pictures of the sparkling bubbly in an elegant Champagne flute to make a special occasion extra special. Champagne is the most expensive of wines and is brought out, more of than not, for those special occasions which warrant a celebration. Some of the most expensive champagnes are listed below.

Coming in at the top is the Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck Champagne. Its price and exclusivity is attributed more to its unbelievable age. At 100 years, these really finely aged champagne bottles from the Heidsieck Vineyard in Champagne which were lost at sea while on their way to the Russian Imperial House in 1916 were found in 1997 by deep sea divers. The 200 bottles which were found at sea are now put up for sale for exclusive guests at the Ritz Carlton, Moscow.

Pernod–Ricard–Perrier-Jouet is also counted among the most expensive champagnes and is made specifically for the affluent set who will settle for nothing less. Available in a set of 12 bottles, the 100 sets come with a storage case which can hold the bottles for close to eight months and the buyer can choose the liquer that will be added to the champagne to enhance the exclusive quotient further.
Dom Perignon White Gold Jeroboam is another pricey wine which owes its expensive tag to the White Gold bottle which has been created to hold the exclusive champagne. The three liter bottle was launched to welcome in the year 2005 and has a select clientele list.

Cristal Brut 1990, also referred to as “Metuselah” came to be considered as an expensive wine when this champagne, a favorite with the chic set was sold in 2005 to a mysterious buyer at the New York Sotheby auction for a huge price that boosted its exclusivity to another level.
